WELCOME

Welcome to the official website of the Rugby Model Engineering Society. Membership of the Rugby Model Engineering Society enables all model engineers, and those who wish to start model engineering in the Rugby area, to take part in and enjoy a regular pattern of activities related to their interests. The main activities of the society centre on the building, running and maintenance of the Rainsbrook Valley Railway located at Onley Lane Rugby (please click on map link on the contact page to find us). The society has a good well equipped clubhouse in a pleasant and well landscaped setting with very good views on the south side of the town. In addition to this members are involved in the construction and refurbishment of both locomotives & carriages as well as many other forms of model engineering. Work on the track, bridges, cuttings and buildings is purely voluntary, (although if we didn't all do our bit we wouldn't have a railway to run on). This normally takes place on Wednesday and Sunday mornings from 09:30 to 12:30 and at other times out of season. Meetings also take place on a Thursday evening in the Club House starting at 19:30hrs.

During the winter months when there is no running, the society, as well as meeting up on a Thursday evening, use one of the evenings each month as a slide/film/talk show night where guests are invited along to give someone elses perspective on a subject. These dates will be shown in the calendar when they are known.

Membership is open to everyone that is interested in taking up this fascinating hobby whether or not they own a locomotive and whatever their skill or knowledge of the hobby is. Anybody that would like to join us please view the information on the "Become A Member" page.

Here we go again a start to another great season and lots to tell you. Before I go any further I would just like to mention the link above "Easy Fundraising.org" which has been added to help us with fund raising. if you use the web site to buy items we as a railway gain commision, please ask regarding how it works.

We had our AGM in March, which went well and you all decided to keep the same committee as last year. We want to continue the positive approach in advancing the clubs facilities and members enjoyment.

On May 18th we had another record public running day with 1253 rides being given on the raised and ground level tracks and £176 taken in the canteen. Our thanks to all the hard work involved by all who helped. The public running on the raised track is proving to be a great success and we will need to consider increasing our rolling stock.

Our new ticket office has taken shape with just the woodwork to complete. Thanks must go to Ray Elliot's son for the brickwork and to Ray and others for the woodwork.

Project leader for the rail replacement on the top bends will be Roy Dore. Roy will be approaching members who are able to form part of a committed team to progress this work.

You will all be pleased to know that the Royal Scott is pretty well finished and looks great, especially with the Chris's sign writing and Lionel's  spray job. Also thanks to Bob & John for completing it.

Our planned revamp of the ground level steaming bays has been put back to next year due to the cost and size of the project as we didnt want to stretch ourselves pysically or financially. We will be using this year and next to save up for this project and will be fabricating the turntable and other bits and pieces during the year leading up to this major project.

Another item that we have been successful in bringing to our railway is the Southern Federation Autumn Rally in 2010. This takes place over the weekend of September 19th & 20th, this will be a great way of advertising ourselves amongst the engineering fraternity and show off our facilities.

Lastly, another subject that was discussed at the AGM was future projects which included the following ideas:- A Signalbox on the ground level track, also a second platform on the ground level system. Extension of the clubhouse which would include the main meeting room being expanded and the creation of a new larger workshop.

We know have a plaque on the side of the water tower to acknowledge our past friend Phil Bevan and teh work that he did for the club.

Lastly could I encourage you all to come to our summer BBQ on Saturday 5th July. Please let me know so that I have an idea of numbers.

I hope you all have an enjoyable year and thank you all for your hard work.
